You’re in the Elite 8, fam! Only an elite few make it this far. Eight to be exact.

Your challenge for this round is to engage in another ubiquitous form of communication: Customer Service Complaints. Tweet about a complaint, or tweet in the form of a complaint. Hell, you can even tweet in the form of dialogue between a customer and a service rep.

One thing we ask, although it’s not a mandatory: Please do your best to avoid tired format tweets, like “My super power is…” or “Sorry I wore ____ to your mom’s funeral.” You may get lucky and win, but it’s poor form and you will rot in hell for the sin of laziness.

Congratulations on making the Sweet 16! The competition is ? fam. The judges want you to know that the last round was probably the toughest, highest quality round of tweets in our contest’s history. We loved your work, but we’re sorry to see many worthy contestants go.

Speaking of sorry, that’s your new topic: Apologies. Write a new tweet apologizing for something, receiving an apology, or about the very concept of saying sorry.

Theme: Advice

Congratulations on surviving the gauntlets of one-liners and dialogue alike. To those of you who deserve to be here by virtue of your craft, humor and wit, we salute you. To those who skated through because your opponent decided to meta-tweet about tweeting in a tweet contest, we salute you too because wtf? smh fam. 

Now, let’s keep it simple: Give us some advice. Good advice. Bad advice. Life advice. Financial advice. Caring and sympathetic advice about what to do if your significant other wants to be lifted and carried. Savage and ratchet af advice about surviving in a world where white men think climate change is as fake as the moon landing. Now go forth and don’t come back until you have your opponent’s head on a spike. Or until they tweet “advice about doing a twitter contest” and you win by default.

Obscure for a Penny Zero – ROUND 2

Round 2: A humorous dialogue tweet.

Let’s run it back, fam! For Round 2, we’re asking you to submit a funny tweet with the opposite stipulation from the previous round: it HAS to take the form of back-and-forth dialogue between (at least) two parties.

Example:
Wife: Hey did you [blah blah blah nag nag]
Husband: Ah durrr! Doop da doo.
Wife: *sips coffee while thinking of dads*
Husband: Karen!! *farts*

See how that tweet was structured? Do that. See how that tweet wasn’t funny and relied on exhausted and offensive tropes about the nature of human relationships? Don’t do that. You’re better than that, fam.

You know the rest: New tweets only. Tweet or draft as much as you want. Then submit only one any time between now and May 3rd at 11:34 AM CT. Once we have both your tweet and your opponent’s tweet, judging will begin and the battle will be announced @theobscuregents account. The winner will be announced as soon as a verdict is reached.
