6 X 2 Questions with Gary Cohen & Mike Shea The Creators of Mallville Rules

by James

Mallville Rules is Saved by the Bell with Superheroes if Saved by the Bell wasn’t a pile of shit and had clever writing. Being a fan of comic books I have come to love these characters from their original incarnations done by creator Gary Cohen and their more recent versions with art from the great Mike Shea. I first came into the Simav Mallville Universe when I was attacked on twitter by Mr. Cohen’s always on point humor. He smacked me in the face with his verbal genitalia and ever since then I’ve become a big fan of Mallville Rules. Listen to these two masterminds talk about their creation and how they may one day murder each other just for sport. Do yourself a favor and follow these whores in all manner of social media they hang out on.

The OG: What brought you two bastards together to create the Mallville Universe? Love or some other sordid origin story?

G: Well, I’ve been writing about the characters in Mallville since I was in high school. All of them are based on my childhood friends. I did Mallville solo for about 9 months. But it was just too much work. And I can’t really draw which is a distinct disadvantage.  I put an ad on Craigslist and found the most amazing artist. But that didn’t work out. So, then I found Mike.

M: I had some downtime between my MOMA retrospective and my upcoming re-paint of the Sistine Chapel so I figured I’d give this whole comics thing a shot. Gary lucked out with the timing really.

6 X 2 Questions with Colin & Brandon The Creators of TWWXD

by James

To know class in comics, one needs to look no further than Twxxd.com. If you have run into the brothers Oliver on the social media landscape you already know what awesome guys they are. Twxxd is a webcomic powerhouse that does things a bit differently. Not only do they have their standard webcomic, but the brothers Oliver also create other type of webcomics on the very same site. Twxxd appeals to the nerd in all of us with brilliant takes on pop culture. I feel that these Canadian bastards write comics just for me, with each and every update making me wish that I could come up with some of their witty observations. Another treat that sets these gentlemen apart from other web comicers is their podcast. Every Monday I look forward to downloading their newest 45-minute-or-so conversation with other web comicers. After you read this interview, go to their website and download a couple of these podcast episodes and find out more about gaming culture and the webcomics you read. These guys work ethic and creativity make me proud to be a part of the web comics community.

The OG: What and why is a Twxxd?

Colin:  The name Twxxd came from the game Gauntlet: Dark Legacy for the N64.  For those who haven’t played it, it was this horrible mindless hack’n’slash game made great by the four player co-op mode, a relatively rare thing in those days.

When a player wanted to start a new level, they had to stand on the appropriate glowing circle on the hub map.  All players had to move to the circle in order for the next level to start.  So if someone was taking their sweet time getting there, or just being a dick, the game would remind all involved that someone wanted to depart by saying something like “Green wizard is read to exit”.  Except the audio quality was HORRIBLE, so for the longest time, we thought the guy was saying “Green wizard is really Twxxd”.  It became a thing.

6 Questions With Saeed Faridzadeh Creator of The Frumps

by James

Let me start by saying that Saeed Faridzadeh the creator of the Frumps is a great fucking web comicer to know. Like a lot of my current web comic finds I heard of the Frumps on the Twxxd podcast. Saeed captivated me with tales of large British people mating through the thin walls of his apartment. While his stories were great on the podcast his comic was even better. Simple comics done with two blob like characters that are crass yet endearing. I urge you all to do yourself a favor and read through the archives as I have a few times over. I see big things for the Frumps in the future and will continue to follow this comic as I already do each and every week.

The OG: I am well aware that you say “fuck if I know?” as to what a Frump is. Now answer the damn question what the hell is a Frump!?

Saeed: A Frump is an adorable, foul mouthed, creature.
