Rumors of our demise were greatly exaggerated!

I would like to quote Tony Stark in Iron Man 2 by saying, “It’s good to be back!” A little less than a month ago we had our first comic in over half a year. Seeing a new comic grace this website pleased me in a way that I can’t even express. Knowing that this little experiment had not quite closed up shop yet after all had filled me with relief, excitement, and worry all at once. I was relieved that something I had grown to love doing hadn’t gone away. I was excited to see what the Gents, myself included, would come up with next. But, I was worried about how what came next would stack up compared to what already was, but goram it if I was going to let that stop me from taking part in that return. So, to reiterate what both James and Aaron said last comic, thank you for reading and allowing us back into your hearts, your computers, and your anus.

So, last month I was at San Diego Comic-Con with Saeed of upstaging the Frumps, and he was using my phone, for some reason that escapes me, when he came across my “OK Cupid” app. We started talking about dating websites and how I haven’t used them in a few years because they never really lead to anything for me. And that is where today’s comic comes from, my frustration over internet dating websites. And really, my frustration likely stems from the fact that I’m probably just too damned shy to actually use them properly and go through with messaging people. But I still reserve the right to blame the websites for my shortcomings. Though, I’m fairly sure if my profile picture was anything like Trevor’s, my profile would be gangbusters!

And now a few words from the artist:

“So, I’ve been re-reading a lot of Love and Rockets lately, and Jaime Hernandez’s simple line work mixed with his bold use if shadow just seemed to click – it may have indirectly inspired what you see here. If you’ve never read Love and Rockets, please do yourself a favor and check it out. The Loca’s stories are pretty top notch, and Jaime is a master storyteller. Still, I cannot help but recommend the Palomar stories by Gilbert, Jaime’s brother and co-creator. Where was I? Oh yeah, the art. I’m on a visual quest of sorts and you’ll see my road trip unfurl slowly throughout each new installment of The Obscure Gentlemen. What that actually means? We’ll just have to wait and see.”

So, there you have it! Our second new comic since our premature retirement, too much insight into my personal life, and a glimpse into the journey of the bold, new look of the art. Until the next time we post a comic, may I bid you a fond adieu.
